Juventus will target Chelsea star if Paul Pogba leaves – report

Juventus want to sign Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic as a replacement for Paul Pogba, according to reports

Juventus will target Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic if Paul Pogba returns to Manchester United this summer, according to reports in the British media.

Goal are claiming that the Serie A champions have identified Matic as the ideal replacement for Pogba as the France international closes in on a world-record move to Old Trafford.

The same report states that Juventus are optimistic about the prospects of securing the signing after Matic’s fall from grace at the west London side and the £30m arrival of Leicester City’s Premier League-winning midfielder N’Golo Kante earlier this month.

Matic, like most of the Chelsea squad, experienced a sharp decline in form last season as the Serbia international struggled to match his high standards from their title-winning campaign in 2014/15.

The 27-year-old defensive midfielder returned to Chelsea in January 2014 after Mourinho signed Matic in a £27m deal from Benfica following David Luiz’s £50m switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Matic has scored five goals in 108 appearances in all competitions for the west London side during his second spell at the four-time Premier League winners.

Chelsea will start the 2016/17 Premier League campaign with a trip to Bournemouth on 15 August.
