Liverpool confirm signing ahead of pre-season training

Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Joel Matip from Schalke on a free transfer

Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Joel Matip from Schalke as the Reds prepare to begin their pre-season preparations.

Jurgen Klopp moved to sign the 24-year-old defender back in February on a free transfer and the Merseyside outfit have now confirmed that the deal is complete via a statement on the club’s website.

The centre-half is now free to link up with Klopp’s side ahead of the new season and will join up with fellow Liverpool new-boys Sadio Mane and Loris Karius at the Melwood training ground this week.

Liverpool are set to begin their pre-season preparations at Melwood on Saturday as they gear up for Klopp’s first full season in charge of the Merseyside outfit.

Matip was Klopp’s second signing as Liverpool boss after the German coach moved to recruit Marko Grujic, who signed for the Reds back in January and will also join his new team-mates this summer.
