Liverpool ponder bid for former Arsenal captain – report

Liverpool are among the clubs considering a bid to sign Thomas Vermaelen from Barcelona this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Liverpool are pondering making a transfer bid to sign the former Arsenal captain this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his defensive options at Anfield.

Vermaelen, 30, is said to be considering his future beyond the summer amid speculation that he could leave Barcelona in the current transfer window.

He made just six La Liga starts for Barcelona last season.

The same newspaper story goes on to say that Vermaelen is also attracting interest from the likes of West Ham United, Napoli and Inter Milan.

Klopp is currently preparing for his first full season in charge at Anfield after his appointment as the club’s new manager back in October.

The Reds ended up without a trophy last season despite reaching the League Cup and Europa League finals.
