Liverpool striker backed to join Premier League rival – report
Liverpool striker Christian Benteke is being tipped to join Palace this summer, according to the bookies
Crystal Palace are the favourites to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke this summer, according to bookmakers BetStars.
The Belgium international endured a difficult first season at Anfield following his £32.5m move to Liverpool from Aston Villa in last summer’s transfer window.
Benteke was out-of-favour under Jurgen Klopp in the second half of the season, prompting speculation that the towering striker could leave this summer.
According to BetStars trading director Ian Marmion, FA Cup runners-up Palace are the leading contenders to sign the 26-year-old striker this summer.
“West Ham and Crystal Palace have been jostling for the services of Liverpool’s Christian Benteke for a long time now. West Ham were front-runners a few weeks ago with BetStars offering odds of 5/2 on a signing, ahead of Palace at 3/1,” said Marmion of BetStars in a news release sent to The Sport Review.
“However, after a flurry of bets in the last 24 hours, it’s looking increasingly likely that Benteke will now be heading to Selhurst Park next season. Crystal Palace are currently odds on at 3/10 to secure his signature.”
Benteke scored nine times in 29 Premier League games for the Merseyside outfit last season following his big-money move to the 18-time English champions.
However, the former Villa man started just 14 of his 29 Premier League games for the Merseyside outfit so far this term.
The Belgium forward netted 49 times in 101 games in all competitions during a three-year spell at Villa Park before his Liverpool move.
