Man United boss Jose Mourinho: What I really think about Pep Guardiola
Jose Mourinho discusses his relationship with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola
Jose Mourinho has insisted that he has no problem with Pep Guardiola as his Manchester United side prepare to face Manchester City as part of their pre-season preparations on Monday.
Mourinho and Guardiola were fierce rivals during their times in charge of Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent years and are set to renew their rivalry this season.
Guardiola is preparing for his first season in charge at Manchester City, while Mourinho is gearing up for his debut campaign at the helm of Manchester United.
However, Mourinho insists that he has full respect for the Spaniard and will shake his hand before Monday’s game.
Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, Mourinho said: “Of course I will shake his hand. I don’t understand the question to him and I don’t understand the question to myself.
“We worked together in Barcelona for three years, we were opponents in other clubs but we are just professionals and we have a normal relationship. So why shouldn’t we shake hands? I don’t see the reason for the question.”
Mourinho was appointed as United’s new manager on a three-year contract back in May after the club opted to sack Louis van Gaal at the end of last season.
The Portuguese coach had been out of work since his sacking by Chelsea back in December following the Blues’ terrible start to the season.
