Man United legend sends blunt warning to new Red Devils signing
Eric Cantona has a message for Zlatan Ibrahimovic...
Eric Cantona has told Zlatan Ibrahimovic that joining Manchester United will be the best decision he ever made – but that he can only ever be the “prince” of the club.
The veteran striker secured a move to Old Trafford last month after Jose Mourinho moved quickly to bring him to the club on a free transfer following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 34-year-old is now preparing for his first taste of Premier League football as he gears up for the 2016-17 season at United.
However, although Cantona seems to be a big fan of Ibrahimovic, he has warned him that his title as the “king” of the club cannot be taken away.
Speaking to Eurosport, Cantona said: “I have a personal message for Zlatan. You decided to go red, it is the best choice you ever made.
“When you walk into the Theatre of Dreams and you feel the ghosts of the legends who have been there before; when you score a goal right in front of the Stretford End; when you hear the crowd chanting your name; when your heart beats so strong that it bursts out of your chest; when you feel that you will love them as much as they love you; you will know, my friend, that finally you have made it home.
“Just one last thing. There can only be one king in Manchester. You can be the prince if you want to and the No. 7 shirt is yours if you are interested.
“This is my welcome gift to you. The king is gone. Long live the prince.”
Mourinho is still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings as he prepares for his first season in charge at Old Trafford.
As well as Ibrahimovic, the Portuguese coach has also signed defender Eric Bailly and playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan so far this summer.
United finished fifth in the Premier League table last season.
