Man United plot £54m offer for Real Madrid midfielder – report

James Rodriguez is a target for Manchester United this summer, according to reports in Spain

Manchester United are planning a £54m (€65m) offer for Colombia and Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Spain.

El Confidencial are claiming that United chief executive Ed Woodward is planning to put together an offer for the Colombian as the Red Devils look to secure their fourth signing of the summer.

The Spanish media outlet are suggesting that the close relationship between Woodward and James’s agent Jorge Mendes means a transfer could still be on the cards this summer.

New United manager Jose Mourinho has been busy in the summer transfer window after bringing in three new names to the Red Devils squad ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season.

The 20-time English champions completed a £30m move for Villarreal defender Eric Bailly in June before Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic agreed to a free transfer earlier in July.

Mourinho secured the £30m signing for Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month, too.

United won their first pre-season game under Mouinho at the weekend thanks to a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
