New Man United signing lifts lid on conversation with Belgian starlet
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was in constant contact with Adnan Januzaj before he joined Manchester United
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed that he was in constant contact with Adnan Januzaj before he signed for Manchester United on Wednesday.
The Armenia international put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Red Devils this week after days of speculation linking him with the club.
The 27-year-old becomes Jose Mourinho’s third signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of defender Eric Bailly and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Januzaj spent some time on loan to Borussia Dortmund last season and got to know Mkhitaryan well.
And the new Manchester United signing has revealed that Januzaj was keen to discover if he would be joining him at Old Trafford this summer.
Speaking in an interview with MUTV, Mkhitaryan said: “I was very close with Adnan.
“He’s one of my friends and even before I came here I was always in touch with him and he was asking if I was going to join. I said ‘I don’t know’ but now I’m here and I will have him as a friend and helper.”
United moved quickly to appoint Mourinho as the club’s new manager back in May after opting to sack Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.
The Red Devils finished eighth in the Premier League last season.
