Mesut Ozil reacts to Germany's Euro 2016 exit at the hands of hosts France
Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to congratulate France on reaching the Euro 2016 final on Thursday night.
The Arsenal playmaker was unable to prevent Germany from slipping to a disappointing 2-0 loss to the hosts as they crashed out of the tournament.
France are now set to go on to face Portugal in Sunday’s final as they seek to win the tournament on home soil.
However, as the Germany side prepared to depart France on Friday, Ozil was quick to take to social media to thank France for the country’s hospitality and react to the result of Thursday’s semi-final clash.
Ozil posted the picture above of himself and Paul Pogba on Instagram and wrote: “The disappointment of the bitter defeat is still the same as yesterday. It just was not meant to be and luck was not really on our side.
“Nevertheless, congratulations to France being a great host. The team and especially the people well deserved it after all the discussions and safety precautions throughout the country since November 2015. Adieu & merci France! #GERFRA #Euro2016 @dfb_team @equipedefrance”
Ozil will now enjoy some well-earned time away from football as he recharges his batteries ahead of next season with Arsenal.
He will then report back to the club to begin his pre-season preparations with Arsene Wenger’s men.
