Jose Enrique has a message for Liverpool's new number three

Jose Enrique has welcomed Liverpool’s decision to hand Mamadou Sakho his old number three shirt ahead of the new season.

The Spanish full-back left the club at the end of the 2015/16 season after a difficult two-year spell spent largely on the sidelines due to a long-term knee problem.

Enrique was given the number three shirt upon his arrival at the Merseyside outfit after ex-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish signed the full-back in a £5m deal from Newcastle United in 2011.

Now, France international Sakho will swap his current shirt number 17 for No3 ahead of the new Premier League campaign as the centre-half look to establish himself as a first-team regular.

And Enrique, who is currently without a club, dedicated a message to the French defender after Sakho was snapped posing with the number three shirt at Melwood training ground.

Enrique posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:

“Couldn’t be happier with anyone having my number 3 than @mamadousakho3 one of the best people I’ve ever met and I know he will wear this shirt well ;) all the best my friend you deserve it”

Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table following a mixed first season under Jurgen Klopp.
