Simon Mignolet is ready to make his Liverpool return ahead of the new season
Simon Mignolet was getting his kit ready for his inaugural training session of the 2016/17 season under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Belgium international has been enjoying an extended summer break after Mignolet was part of Marc Wilmots’s Red Devils squad that reached the last eight of the European championships before a 3-1 defeat by Chris Coleman’s Wales outfit.
Mignolet returns to Liverpool with renewed competition for a starting spot in Klopp’s starting XI following the signings of Germany and Mainz shot stopper Loris Karius and veteran Austrian goalkeeper Alex Manninger.
The 28-year-old is relishing the prospect of returning to training as Liverpool gear up for their games in the International Champions Cup stateside against Chelsea and AC Milan this summer.
Mignolet posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote:
“Getting ready for my first session back in! #22 #YNWA”
The Belgian goalkeeper moved to Liverpool in a £9m deal from Sunderland in 2013 under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool will take on bitter rivals Chelsea at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Wednesday before the Reds face AC Milan at the Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.
