Philippe Coutinho has a farewell message for Martin Skrtel after his Liverpool exit
Philippe Coutinho is going to miss Martin Skrtel after the centre-half swapped Liverpool for Fenerbahce.
The Slovakia international called time on an eight-year career with the Merseyside outfit after the Turkish side agreed a £5.5m deal for the no-nonsense centre-half earlier this week.
Coutinho moved to the 18-time English champions from Serie A giants Inter Milan in January 2013 and played alongside Skrtel for three-and-a-half seasons at the Merseyside outfit.
The Liverpool pair played key roles as the Reds moved to within grasp of a first-ever Premier League title before their bid collapsed in the final three games of the 2013/14 season.
However, Coutinho still enjoyed playing alongside Skrtel at the five-time European champions and the Brazilian playmaker dedicated a message on his Instagram page for the Slovakian captain.
Coutinho wrote the following caption on the photo-sharing app:
“What a pleasure to have played with you amigooo @martin37skrtel I wish you all the best in your new team.”
Liverpool lost two cup finals in Jurgen Klopp’s first eight months in charge of the Merseyside outfit.
The Reds lost to Manchester City on penalties in the League Cup final at Wembley before a 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League showpiece.
