Photo: Man United flop sends heartfelt message to Luke Shaw

Memphis Depay has expressed his delight to be training with Luke Shaw again as the Manchester United left-back celebrated his 21st birthday on Tuesday.

The England defender has recently made a return to first-team training after a lengthy lay-off following his horror leg break during United’s 2-1 defeat by Depay’s former club PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in September.

Shaw has a new manager to impress following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor at Old Trafford earlier this summer, with the young full-back a self-confessed Chelsea supporter.

Depay, too, has something to prove to Mourinho after the Netherlands international struggled to justify his £25m price tag during his first season as a Premier League player.

And the Dutch winger took to his Instagram page to wish Shaw a happy 21st birthday on Tuesday as the United duo look to impress Mourinho during pre-season training at Carrington.

Depay posted the above photo on the photo-sharing app and wrote the following caption:

“Shout out to my boy, 21! Finally a grown man, happy birthday @lukeshaw23. Great to be back on the training pitch together 😃💪🏾”

Shaw has made 28 appearances for the Red Devils since his big-money switch from Southampton in 2014.

The Dutch winger scored seven times in 45 games in all competitions last term, although the 23-year-old only netted twice in the Premier League.
