Andy Cole is happy with Manchester United's new number nine
Andy Cole has signalled his seal of approval at Zlatan Ibrahimovic becoming Manchester United’s new number nine.
The Sweden legend agreed a deal to join the Red Devils earlier in June after weeks of speculation linking the 34-year-old centre-forward with a move to Old Trafford.
Ibrahimovic is one of three summer signings at Old Trafford after Jose Mourinho wrapped up big-money deals for Villarreal centre-half Eric Bailly and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Cole scored 93 times in 195 Premier League games as United’s number nine between 1995 and 2001 before the retired England striker moved to Blackburn Rovers.
And the Red Devils legend is happy to see an illustrious name such as Ibrahimovic grace United’s prestigious number nine shirt ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season.
Cole posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:
“Ibrahimovic is a red… @manchesterunited new number 9!”
United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season after a disappointing campaign under Louis van Gaal.
The Red Devils did, however, win their first trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 thanks to their 2-1 extra-time win against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.
