Juan Mata was all smiles alongside David De Gea as Manchester United jetted off to China on Tuesday afternoon.

The Spain international has a point to prove to new manager Jose Mourinho after the 53-year-old sold Mata to United during his second spell in charge of Chelsea in January 2013.

Mata was previously United’s record signing following his £37.1m deal from the Blues before Argentina international Angel di Maria completed his doomed £59.7m switch to Old Trafford.

Now, the World Cup winner has been linked with a potential move away from Old Trafford this summer, with reports suggesting Mourinho hasn’t changed his view on Mata.

But the 28-year-old playmaker was in high spirits as he posed for a selfie alongside his compatriot and friend De Gea en route to China as United prepare to kick-start their pre-season campaign.

Mata posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:

“Off to China! Very excited and looking forward to my first visit to this country! 😁🇨🇳”
