Rob Holding speaks about his first appearance as an Arsenal player
Rob Holding says it was a great experience to learn from the likes of Didier Drogba, Kaka and Andrea Pirlo as the defender made his Arsenal debut in Thursday’s 2-1 victory over MLS All-Stars.
The centre-half became Arsene Wenger’s third signing of the summer transfer window earlier this month after the north London side agreed a deal with Championship side Bolton Wanderers.
Holding was training with the Arsenal squad in California over the past week ahead of their pre-season fixture at the Avaya Stadium, which is the home of the San Jose Earthquakes.
And Wenger started Holding for Arsenal’s game against the MLS All-Stars as the 20-year-old was tasked with keeping the likes of Drogba, Kaka and Pirlo quiet in San Jose.
Speaking after the 2-1 victory which saw Holding almost score from a corner in the final 10 minutes, the Arsenal defender discussed the experience of facing such legends of the game.
“It’s good to play against the likes of Drogba, Kaka and Pirlo. They’re top quality players who’ve had massive careers,” Holding said in the video above.
“I think I did alright. I would have topped it off if that header went in off the corner at the end.”
Arsenal will take on Chivas Guadalajara in their next pre-season game in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
