Bastian Schweinsteiger is making sure that he is in top shape ahead of his return to Manchester United

Bastian Schweinsteiger is clearly determined to prove himself to new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as he prepares for a return to pre-season training.

The Germany international has been given an extended summer break by his club following his involvement in Euro 2016 with his country in France.

The midfielder helped Germany reach the semi-finals of the competition, before they were beaten by hosts France.

The World Cup winner has been enjoying his summer holiday in recent days but is clearly determined to make sure that he heads back to Carrington in the best possible shape.

Schweinsteiger posted the picture above of himself midway through a gym workout on his personal Instagram account on Monday afternoon and wrote: “Workout!”

United are now back in the UK following the return from their pre-season tour to China as they step up their preparations under new manager Mourinho.

Their clash with Manchester City in Beijing was cancelled on Monday due to poor weather conditions.
