Joel Matip trained with the Liverpool squad for the first time since his summer move from Schalke

Jurgen Klopp was deep in chat with new Liverpool signing Joel Matip during pre-season training at Melwood training ground on Saturday afternoon.

The Cameroon international posed with a Reds shirt for the first time yesterday before the 24-year-old joined his new team-mates for a session at Melwood training ground.

Matip was joined by fellow new signings Germany and Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius and £34m Senegal and Southampton striker Sadio Mane as Klopp watched his new-look squad put through their paces.

Outspoken Italian striker Mario Balotelli was also back at Melwood after a season-long loan at Serie A giants AC Milan.

Roberto Firmino, who was one of the stars of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign for the Merseyside outfit, was snapped speaking to Klopp ahead of the Brazilian’s second campaign at Anfield.

And Matip took part in what appeared to be some pre-season sprints at Melwood ahead of their first warm-up game against Tranmere Rovers later this month.
