Raphael Varane delivers transfer update amid Man United link
Raphael Varane deals Manchester United a blow after committing his future to Real Madrid
Raphael Varane has reiterated that he is happy at Real Madrid despite reported interest from the Premier League.
The France centre-half has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most-exciting defensive prospects in recent seasons following his move to Madrid from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2012.
However, Varane has failed to established himself as a first-team regular for Los Blancos and the 23-year-old defender has been linked with a potential move away from The Bernabeu.
With the defender’s former Madrid manager Jose Mourinho currently in charge at Old Trafford, United have been inevitably touted as a potential destination for the France star.
But Varane has underlined his desire to remain committed to the 11-time European champions beyond the summer, adding that Madrid still have the best collection of players.
“Yes, I want to stay here this year. I think everything is here for me to continue my progression,” Varane is quoted as saying by The Independent.
“I feel loved by the club and by the fans who have always treated me almost like a youth product.
“The best players are here, everything is here for me to keep improving and I’m really enthusiastic about improving. The best is still ahead of me.”
Madrid won their 11th European crown in May thanks to a penalty shootout victory over their bitter local rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final in Milan.
United have already signed three players in the summer transfer window: Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
