Ray Parlour makes bold claim about Man United and Paul Pogba
Ray Parlour discusses Man United target Paul Pogba's £100m price tag
Ray Parlour believes Paul Pogba’s £100m price tag would be quickly forgotten if Manchester United win the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils have already signed three players in the summer transfer window, with new manager Jose Mourinho recruiting Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan since taking over at Old Trafford in May.
However, the 20-time English champions have continued to be linked with Pogba just four years after the France international moved to Serie A side Juventus after failing to secure first-team football under Sir Alex Ferguson.
According to Spanish media outlet AS, United have agreed a £102m deal with Italian champions Juve for their midfielder as Mourinho closes in on his fourth summer signing ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.
Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour, who was part of Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles side in 2004, played down the significance of Pogba’s reported price tag.
“He’s a tremendous player, there’s no doubt about that, and he will deliver,” Parlour told Sky Sports News.
“Yes, £100m is a lot of money but he will be a real asset in that midfield area. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a great signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a great signing. It is going to be a real battle next season for the Premier League.
“It will be intriguing to see who gets who before the end of the window but certainly Pogba will be a great signing.
“People will look at that price tag but if he can deliver on a regular basis and win them the title then eveyone will forget that £100m very quickly. He would be brilliant for Manchester United.”
Pogba has won four successive Serie A titles and two Coppa Italias since the French midfielder moved to Turin from Old Trafford in 2012.
Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s replacement in May after a disappointing fifth-placed finish in the Premier League.
