Rio Ferdinand: This is who Jose Mourinho should sign for Man United
Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to sign Paul Pogba this summer
Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to re-sign France and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.
The 23-year-old midfielder suffered the disappointment of missing out on the European championship trophy after a 1-0 extra-time loss to Euro 2016 hosts France on Sunday.
Pogba has been heavily linked with a move to United throughout the major tournament so far, with the Red Devils thought to be ready to offer a world-record £100m transfer fee.
The French playmaker moved to Serie A champions Juventus in an £800,000 deal in 2012 after the rising star failed to cement a regular starting spot in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
Former United midfielder Ferdinand, who is a former team-mate of Pogba, explained why he believes Jose Mourinho should sign the Juventus star to bolster his squad this summer.
“I would love him to return,” Ferdinand told The Sunday Times.
“United need personalities. The league needs star players, charisma, and at the moment they are not in England.
“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is here. Yes, that’s a great start, but how long for?
“You need someone to be there for four or five years and filter his charisma and star quality throughout the whole league.
“Pogba is that player. United would fit the bill in terms of helping him become the complete package he is so determined to be.”
Pogba has won four successive Serie A titles since his move to Juventus in 2012.
The France international scored an impressive eight goals and 12 assists in 35 Serie A appearances for Massimiliano Allegri’s side last term.
The United target finished as a Champions League runner-up in 2015.
