Ryan Giggs has suggested that Manchester United made a mistake by not signing Renato Sanches before Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move to bring the teenager to Old Trafford from Benfica during Louis van Gaal’s spell at United before he eventually ended up signing for Bayern.

Portugal international Sanches was in fine form as he scored for his country to help fire them past Poland and into the semi-finals of Euro 2016 on Thursday night.

Former United midfielder Giggs was on punditry duty for ITV covering the quarter-final clash and admitted that he is a keen admirer of the Bayern Munich starlet.

Asked whether he thought Sanches was worth the reported £35m paid for him by Bayern, Giggs told ITV: “100 per cent worth it.

“I saw a lot of his games last season. He’s a kid with a lot of talent.”
