Ryan Giggs: My message to new Man United boss Jose Mourinho
Ryan Giggs has his say on the new Manchester United manager
Ryan Giggs is backing Jose Mourinho to cement his status as one of the world’s best managers following his appointment at Manchester United.
The Portuguese coach is set to take pre-season training for the first time on Tuesday following his arrival at Old Trafford on a three-year contract back in May.
Mourinho has been drafted in by the Red Devils to help to restore the club to the top of English football after their disappointing fifth-placed finish in the Premier League last season.
The former Chelsea boss’ arrival at United has paved the way for Giggs to end his 29-year association with the club, after he announced his exit on Saturday.
However, Giggs – who had worked as Louis van Gaal’s assistant boss for the last two seasons – is backing Mourinho as the right man to take United back to the pinnacle of the English game by winning trophies.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with CNN, Giggs said: “Jose Mourinho is obviously a top, top manager. United are always about winning trophies – and he’s proven.”
Asked about his exit from the club, he added: “I’ve never been one to look back, I always look forward.
“Ultimately, I want to be a manager in my own right. I’ve had a great apprenticeship playing under Sir Alex Ferguson and then working under Louis van Gaal in the last couple of years. I’ve really enjoyed it.”
United wont he FA Cup under Van Gaal last season.
