Three Liverpool players who Jurgen Klopp should sell this summer
Jurgen Klopp has made seven signings this summer, but which Liverpool players could be leaving in the near future?
Time could well be up for Simon Mignolet at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp signed Loris Karius in a deal from Bundesliga side Mainz at the start of the summer. The Reds boss wasted no time handing the Germany Under-21 international the number one shirt, which is surely a clear sign that Karius has been signed to at least challenge, if not replace, Mignolet. The Belgium shot stopper has struggled with consistency in the past two seasons and his mistakes have cost Liverpool vital points. With Mignolet signing a long-term deal in January, Liverpool could recoup most of their £9m outlay.
Klopp has already shown that he is unwilling to offload some English talents this summer, displaying a ruthlessness as he shapes up his squad for the new season. Jordan Rossiter and Jerome Sinclair have already left the Merseyside outfit. Jordon Ibe’s £15m transfer was perhaps most surprising given the England Under-21 international’s growing reputation albeit under Rodgers. Now, Flanagan could be fighting for his future with Klopp signing two defenders already in the summer transfer window: Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan. Injuries have hampered Flanagan since his impressive performances in the 2013/14 season. Despite being a local lad, there is a sense that time is running out for Flanagan.
It’s time to get Mario Balotelli off the wage bill. The Italy international scored one goal in 26 Premier League appearances in his first season at Anfield and he offered very little under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers. The former Borussia Dortmund manager has frozen the Italian out of his pre-season plans but Liverpool are still struggling to find a suitor for the 26-year-old. A disruptive presence and a reasonably big earner, the Reds need to usher Balotelli out of the Anfield exit door as soon as possible.
