Tottenham blow as Germany star closes in on Dortmund move – report
Tottenham Hotspur won't be signing Mario Gotze this summer, according to The Daily Mirror
Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on Bayern Munich and Germany forward Mario Gotze this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror reports that the 23-year-old attacking midfielder is set to return to Borussia Dortmund in a £20m deal in the summer transfer window.
The Lilywhites have been linked with a host of players so far this summer, however, Mauricio Pochettino has only signed defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama in a big-money deal from Premier League rivals Southampton.
Tottenham finished in third place in the top-flight table last term after a four-game winless run to finish the season which allowed Arsenal to pip their north London rivals to the runners-up spot behind Leicester City.
Gotze, meanwhile, won his third successive Bundesliga title with Bayern despite playing a bit-part role in Pep Guardiola’s side over the course of the 2015/16 campaign due to injury and a lack of form.
The Germany playmaker emerged as one of Europe’s most-exciting prospects under current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp during his spell in charge at Dortmund before Gotze’s controversial move to Bayern in 2013.
