Tottenham boost as Liverpool pull out of race to sign Germany star – report
Liverpool have ended their interest in Tottenham target Mario Gotze, according to Liverpool Echo
Liverpool have ended their interest in signing Bayern Munich and Germany playmaker Mario Gotze in the summer transfer window, according to reports in the British media.
Klopp was thought to be interested in signing the World Cup winner amid uncertainty surrounding Gotze’s future at the Allianz Arena under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.
However, The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Liverpool have pulled out of the race to sign Gotze which paves the way for Tottenham Hotspur to step up their pursuit of the former Borussia Dortmund forward.
Jurgen Klopp has already been busy this summer after signing Germany Under-21 international Loris Karius in a £4.7m deal from Mainz and completing a £30m transfer for Southampton forward Sadio Mane.
Liverpool also added Marko Grujic and Joel Matip to their squad earlier this month after the Merseyside outfit agreed deals to sign the Red Star Belgrade midfielder and Schalke defender in January.
Gotze scored six times in 21 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga champions last season after struggling to tie down a regular starting spot under Pep Guardiola.
Tottenham have only signed Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama this summer despite being linked with a host of different players in the transfer window.
