Watch: Liverpool captain sends upbeat message to Reds supporters
Jordan Henderson has a message for Liverpool supporters ahead of the new season
Jordan Henderson has reassured Liverpool supporters that their captain will feature on a more regular basis this season.
The England international endured an injury-hit 2015/16 campaign due to a series of foot and leg problems which limited Henderson to just 17 Premier League appearances.
Henderson is facing increased competition for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s side following the arrival of Sadio Mane in a £30m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton.
Joe Allen’s impressive form for Wales at Euro 2016 will also provide the Liverpool manager with a headache as he looks to accommodate Allen, Henderson, Emre Can and Lucas Leiva in his midfield.
However, the Reds captain is determined to secure a regular starting spot as the 26-year-old looks to rebound from a difficult 2015/16 Premier League campaign.
Henderson posted the above video on his Instagram page and wrote:
“Looking to put my injuries from last season behind me and focusing on this big season ahead. I’m feeling good and can’t wait to get back playing. #YNWA”
Henderson missed Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League final due to injury.
The former Sunderland midfielder was named as Steven Gerrard’s successor as Liverpool captain last summer in a decision that was made by Klopp’s predecessor, Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds will start the 2016/17 Premier League campaign with an away trip to bitter rivals Arsenal.
