Wayne Rooney admits that he can't wait to link up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Manchester United

Wayne Rooney admits that he cannot wait to link up with new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United next season.

The Swedish striker became Jose Mourinho’s second signing of the summer transfer window after agreeing to join the Red Devils on a free transfer following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season.

The 34-year-old has been given an extended summer holiday to recover following his involvement in Euro 2016 with Sweden in France but will soon turn his attentions towards getting ready for his first season in the Premier League.

And United captain Rooney admits that he is hugely excited about playing alongside the veteran forward, who he considers to be one of the best strikers on the planet.

Speaking in an interview published on United’s website, Rooney said: “I think he has been one of the best strikers in world football over the last 10 years and he has always won trophies everywhere he has been.

“He is a huge character so I am looking forward to getting back, training with him and hopefully forming a good partnership and being successful together.”

United moved quickly to appoint Mourinho as the club’s new manager back in May following their decision to sack Louis van Gaal just days after the Dutchman led them to the FA Cup and a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League.
