Wayne Rooney: What I really think about Jose Mourinho at Man United
Wayne Rooney discusses his start to life under new manager Jose Mourinho at Manchester United
Wayne Rooney says Jose Mourinho is working Manchester United’s players hard but insists he is enjoying working under the Portuguese coach.
The former Chelsea boss was appointed as the club’s new manager back in May after the club opted to sack Louis van Gaal at the end of last season.
Mourinho has been working with his players at the club’s Carrington training ground in recent weeks as he prepares for his first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
Rooney recently reported back to the club for pre-season training after being given an extended summer holiday following Euro 2016.
And the Manchester United captain has lifted the lid on what the first few weeks have been like under the club’s new manager.
Speaking to Key 103 as quoted by Sky Sports News HQ, Rooney said: “It’s always great to get a new manager but when you get someone in the stature of Jose Mourinho he’s great to work under and he’s brought a winning mentality back to the club.
“Manchester United as a football club, we have to win and we have to deliver for him.
“There’s pressure on the players but we’re ready and I think this season we’ll give a real challenge on all fronts.
“He’s come in, he’s been great with the players. The training has been hard but enjoyable. We’re ready, we’re working hard. We know it’s a big season for us.
“He’s made, in my opinion, some great signings who have gelled in really well with the squad so it’s exciting times.”
United finished fifth in the Premier League table last season and won the FA Cup before opting to sack Louis van Gaal and appoint Mourinho as the club’s new manager.
