Zlatan Ibrahimovic responds to Man United legend’s comments

The new Manchester United signing is up for rivalling Eric Cantona's legacy at Old Trafford

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has responded to Eric Cantona after the France legend insisted there would only be one king of Manchester.

The retired Sweden international agreed a deal to join the Red Devils earlier this month after months of speculation linking the centre-forward with a move to Old Trafford.

Ibrahimovic will provide great attacking depth for new United manager Jose Mourinho after the 20-time English champions finished in fifth place under Louis van Gaal last term.

However, Cantona warned Ibrahimovic that he will struggle to replicate his cult status at Old Trafford following a return of four Premier League titles and two FA Cups.

But the 34-year-old centre-forward has reassured Cantona that he is not after his title and will perhaps reach an even greater level of adoration at the 13-time Premier League winners.

“I admire Cantona. And I heard what he said. But I won’t be King of Manchester. I will be God of Manchester,” Ibrahimovic told Aftonbladet.

United haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager in 2013.

The Red Devils have signed three players in the summer transfer window, including Ibrahimovic.
