Anders Lindegaard is convinced that Manchester United will challenge for the Premier League trophy this season – but fears Liverpool could also have a big say in the title race.

The Red Devils are currently gearing up for their first season under new boss Jose Mourinho as they look to win the top flight title for the first time since 2013.

Mourinho has already led United to their first piece of silverware after his side beat Leicester to lift the Community Shield on Sunday.

Many are tipping the Red Devils to mount a serious title assault in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.

And although former United man Lindegaard feels that the title race will come down to a battle between the Red Devils and local rivals City, he also fears that Liverpool could challenge this term.

Speaking exclusively to 888Sport, Lindegaard said: “United are going to be successful under Mourinho.

“They have obviously spent a lot of money but have bought quite wisely and with Mourinho’s track record in how he performs in his first year at clubs I’m sure United are going to push for the title.

“I think it’s between them and Manchester City. Unfortunately I have a feeling that Liverpool could be a dark horse.”

United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season under Louis van Gaal.
