Anders Lindegaard is backing Wayne Rooney to rediscover his best form under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United this season.

The Red Devils are currently preparing for their first campaign under their new manager after the Portuguese coach’s appointment as the club’s new boss earlier in the summer.

Mourinho has already secured his first piece of silverware as United boss after he guided the Red Devils to the Community Shield at Wembley last weekend.

Rooney and his United team-mates are now preparing for their first Premier League game of the season when they travel to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

And former United goalkeeper Lindegaard is expecting to see Mourinho get the best form out of Rooney this season.

Speaking exclusively to 888Sport, Lindegaard said: “He’s going to be important and Wayne will blossom under Mourinho.

“He’s always fancied Wazza as a football player and I remember him saying several times that he considered him one of the best in the world. He fits right in to Mourinho’s philosophy and he’s going to do great.

“Everybody knows how determined he is and how hard he works so he will suit a more direct style of playing and for me he will play just off the main striker.”

Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season under Louis van Gaal before the Dutchman was sacked and replaced by Mourinho back in May.
