Andy Cole delivers verdict on Jose Mourinho’s new Man United signings
Andy Cole runs the rule over Jose Mourinho's summer signings for Manchester United
Andy Cole has likened Jose Mourinho’s ruthlessness in the summer transfer market to Sir Alex Ferguson’s ability to sign his top Manchester United targets.
The Red Devils completed their fourth signing of the summer earlier this week after Paul Pogba completed a world-record move to Old Trafford from Serie A champions Juventus.
Mourinho has come in and specified the four players he wanted and the club has got them all
Mourinho started his summer business with the £30m signing of Villarreal defender Eric Bailly before Zlatan Ibrahimovic swapped Paris Saint-Germain for United.
Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the third arrival of the summer after United concluded a £30m deal with Borussia Dortmund.
And former United striker Cole has been impressed with Mourinho’s ability to land quality signings ahead of the close of the summer transfer window.
“Yeah I have been impressed, you have got to be,” Cole told United’s website.
“Some of the signings over the last few years… I don’t know if it was a numbers thing, to get bodies in at a certain time.
“But Mourinho has come in and specified the four players he wanted and the club has got them all. That reminds me of my time with Sir Alex Ferguson. He identified a player and, nine times out of 10, got the player.”
United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season under Mourinho’s predecessor Van Gaal.
The Red Devils haven’t won the English top-flight crown since 2013 but their current manager has won 17 major trophies during a decorated mangerial career.
Mourinho has career win percentage of 66 after having managed 765 games so far at Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
