Andy Cole makes bold claim about Paul Pogba and Man United
Andy Cole explains why he is encouraged by Paul Pogba's decision to move to Manchester United
Andy Cole believes Paul Pogba’s decision to join Manchester United highlights the midfielder’s belief in Jose Mourinho’s vision for the club.
The France international completed a reported world-record move to the Red Devils from Serie A champions Juventus earlier this week after months of speculation linking the 23-year-old with a switch to Old Trafford.
He got to the quarter-finals last season and the final the year before, so missing out this season is a massive factor
However, Pogba won’t get the chance to shine in the Champions League this season after United failed to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition due to their fifth-place finish under Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal.
And Cole believes Pogba’s decision to make the move to United despite their lack of Champions League football speaks volumes for the midfielder’s faith in United’s potential under Mourinho.
“If Pogba has chosen Manchester United over Real Madrid for football reasons as well then that is a massive coup, especially knowing that he will miss out on Champions League football for a year because that is a big factor,” Cole told United’s website.
“He got to the quarter-finals last season and the final the year before, so missing out this season is a massive factor. He must be convinced by the future at United.”
Pogba scored eight times and made 12 assists in 35 appearances in the Italian top flight last season as the French midfielder won his fourth successive Serie A title.
United haven’t won the Premier League crown since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson secured the 13th top-flight crown of his decorated 25-year reign at Old Trafford.
