Arsenal boss responds directly to Mahrez and Lacazette transfer talk
Arsene Wenger discusses Arsenal's transfer links to Riyad Mahrez and Alexandre Lacazette this summer
Arsene Wenger remained typically coy when quizzed directly about the speculation linking Arsenal with transfer bids to sign Riyad Mahrez and Alexandre Lacazette this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with a host of players in the summer transfer window thus far but have only signed midfielder Granit Xhaka, striker Takuma Asano and defender Rob Holding to date.
Arsenal were confirmed to have had a bid to sign striker Lacazette from Lyon turned down earlier in the summer as Wenger looks to strengthen his attacking options at The Emirates.
The Gunners have also been heavily linked with a bid to sign PFA player of the year Mahrez from Premier League champions Leicester City in recent days.
However, the Arsenal boss gave little away when quizzed directly about the two players over the weekend.
Speaking at a news conference on Saturday night, Wenger was asked about Mahrez and Lacazette, and he replied: “The best way to conclude transfers is not to talk about them, which is very difficult in the press conference!
“We are on the market but I don’t want to talk specifically about any player because that makes it more difficult for me – and it’s difficult enough.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
