Arsenal fans will agree with Graeme Souness’s warning for Arsene Wenger
Graeme Souness gives his take on Arsenal's transfer business after their 4-3 loss to Liverpool on Sunday
Graeme Souness has told Arsene Wenger that he must face the reality that he needs to strengthen his Arsenal side after the Gunners’ 4-3 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.
The Gunners struggled to click into gear for large spells of game as Jurgen Klopp’s men ran riot for periods in the second half.
Arsenal were 4-1 down but did battle back to 4-3, however they failed to find an equaliser in front of their disgruntled home fans at The Emirates.
Wenger has been criticised for not moving to bring in further reinforcements in the summer transfer window, with the Gunners having so far only signed Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding.
And former Liverpool man Souness had a blunt warning for the Arsenal boss after Sunday’s disappointing defeat for the Gunners.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Souness said: “He [Wenger] has got to face reality – his team isn’t good enough and in certain areas he has to strengthen.
“To do that he has to accept, like Fergie [Sir Alex Ferguson] used to accept, like Roman Abramovich and Manchester City accept, that there is a premium to pay today for players if you’re a big club in the Premier League.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City as they ended the campaign without a trophy.
