Arsenal make enquiry about signing Barcelona man – report

Arsenal could be set to make a move to sign Barcelona's veteran defender Jeremy Mathieu, say reports

Arsenal could be set to turn their attentions towards signing Barcelona’s veteran defender Jeremy Mathieu, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the Gunners have made enquires about the availability of the 32-year-old defender as Arsene Wenger searches for reinforcements at the back.

Arsenal are currently without Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista due to injury as they gear up for their Premier League opener against Liverpool at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

The same report says that Mathieu is thought to be considering the offer from the Gunners having rejected Turkish side Besiktas earlier this summer.

It also states that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also expressed his interest in signing the defender.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a bid to bring Valencia and Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi to the club this summer in recent days.
