Mark Lawrenson predicts the outcome of Arsenal v Liverpool
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Arsenal's Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon
Mark Lawrenson is backing Liverpool to hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in their Premier League opener at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners are preparing to welcome the Merseyside outfit to north London as they bid to kick off their Premier League campaign with a win in front of their home fans.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are gearing up for their first full season under new manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds stuttered to an eighth placed finish in the Premier League last season but have been one of the top flight’s busiest teams in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal finished second in the table and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
And Lawrenson is tipping the Reds and the Gunners to share the spoils at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Arsenal fans are already complaining about their side’s lack of signings and they are currently short of fit centre-halves.
“Liverpool have injury problems too, because Daniel Sturridge is recovering from a hip problem, and without him I am not sure that they have a regular goalscorer.
“Liverpool are opening the season with three away games because of the work on the main stand at Anfield. As well as Arsenal they go to Chelsea and Tottenham in the first month.
“Taking all of that into consideration, I think both sides would take a point here.”
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
