Arsene Wenger delivers latest injury update on key Arsenal star

Arsene Wenger delivers the latest injury news on Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere

Arsene Wenger has moved to play down concerns about Jack Wilshere’s fitness levels ahead of the start of the Premier League this weekend.

The midfielder missed the conclusion of Arsenal’s pre-season preparations with a minor injury problem.

Wilshere has been dogged by fitness struggles for the last few seasons and missed most of the last campaign with a serious ankle injury.

However, Wenger has moved to play down the seriousness of Wilshere’s latest setback and says that he is hopeful of a big season from the England international.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Wenger said: “He has a very big year ahead.

“I must say his preparation was encouraging.

“He had a little setback recently but its looks very minor and of course for us to have a great season it is important to have a great Jack Wilshere.”

It remains to be seen whether Wilshere will be considered fit enough to feature for Arsenal in their Premier League opener against Liverpool at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
