Arsene Wenger makes Premier League vow to Arsenal fans

Arsene Wenger looks ahead to the new Premier League season and discusses Arsenal's ambitions

Arsene Wenger has promised Arsenal fans that his side will do everything possible to end their long wait for the Premier League trophy this season.

The Gunners have not lifted the top-flight trophy since their famous unbeaten triumph back in the 2003-04 season.

Arsenal came in for plenty of criticism last season for failing to sustain a title challenge as they ended up 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester as they finished second in the Premier League table.

With Jose Mourinho taking over at Manchester United, Pep Guardiola arriving at Manchester City and Antonio Conte now in charge at Chelsea, the 2016-17 season is set to be highly competitive.

However, Wenger is confident that his side have what it takes to lift the top-flight trophy next May.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Wenger said: “There are plenty of clubs with big ambition.

“At the moment there are many big managers and many big clubs. It raises the ambition and the hope everywhere, but only one will win it. We just have to make sure it is us.

“The competition will be very fierce, especially with Leicester winning it last year. Nobody expected that so some smaller clubs could hope to be in the fight for it too. They can say that the bigger clubs will drop points against each other, so it will be more open than ever but also more interesting.

“We’ve got a difficult start against Liverpool, then it’s Leicester straight away, then to Watford. In the first three games we have to make sure that we are ready.”
