Arsene Wenger makes transfer admission to fans before Arsenal v Liverpool
Arsene Wenger admits that Arsenal are working hard to sign a new player before Sunday's clash with Liverpool
Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal are working harder than ever to sign a new player before Sunday’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a host of Europe’s top stars during the summer transfer window but have thus far only signed Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding.
Arsenal are set to be short in defence after Gabriel Paulsita joined Per Mertesacker on the sidelines for a number of weeks due to an ankle injury.
Mertesacker has already been ruled out for at least four months after undergoing knee surgery during the summer months.
And Wenger admits that he is doing all he can to bring in some reinforcements before the Premier League gets under way this weekend.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Wenger said: “We are in the transfer market, but we are focused on concentrating on our players – we have to get them ready for the season.
“On the other hand, with what happened with us, of course we are looking outside to strengthen our squad.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
