Arsene Wenger has expressed his doubts about whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic can be a success at Manchester United due to his age.

The Swedish striker signed for the Red Devils on a free transfer earlier in the summer as new manager Jose Mourinho moved quickly to bolster his attacking line-up at Old Trafford ahead of his first season in charge.

The 34-year-old has enjoyed a glittering career across Europe and will be hoping to make a big impact at Old Trafford this season.

However, Arsenal manager Wenger is not convinced that the veteran attacker will be able produce his best form for the Red Devils due to his age.

Wenger told Sky Sports News HQ: “Honestly I don’t know [how he will get on].

“Going for him is his class, his talent, his desire to do well. What goes against him is that he is not the youngest player anymore, so you are questioned about that in every game.

“From what I saw of him last year at Paris Saint-Germain, it was his most complete season as an individual player and as a team player. He became a really great team player last season.

“On the mental aspect he will bring something to Man United as well. He is a winner, he has charisma and he will give them a strength as well as his individual quality.”

Arsenal are now gearing up for their crunch Premier League opening game against Liverpool at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon as Wenger’s men look to get their campaign off to a winning start.
