Arsene Wenger’s reply when asked about Arsenal bid for Riyad Mahrez

Arsene Wenger refuses to be drawn on the speculation linking Arsenal with a bid for Riyad Mahrez

Arsene Wenger remained typically coy when quizzed about the speculation linking Arsenal with a summer transfer bid to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

The north London side have been linked with a bid to bring the PFA player of the year to The Emirates in recent days as Wenger looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season.

Mahrez was one of the Premier League’s standout performers last season as he helped Leicester win the Premier League title.

However, Wenger refused to confirm or deny that Arsenal were keeping tabs on Mahrez as the new Premier League season draws ever nearer.

Asked directly about Mahrez in an interview with beIN Sports, Wenger replied: “Yes, of course, we watch all the players, you know.

“But we play Leicester in the second game of the championship so of course it’s a good opportunity for us tonight to see them

“I cannot give you a yes or no because we do not publicise our transfer interest.

“The best way to make things happen is to keep it as secret as possible.”

Arsenal – who won the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015 – finished second in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
