Arsene Wenger’s three-word response when asked if Arsenal need a striker
The Arsenal manager is confident that the Gunners can rely on Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott this season
Arsene Wenger has appeared to play down the chances of Arsenal signing a striker in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners manager has previously confirmed that the north London side need to sign a centre-forward ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
Wenger has only signed three players in the current transfer window, including his marquee arrival Granit Xhaka in a £33m deal from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.
However, when asked in an apparent interview with The Guardian’s journalist Amy Lawrence whether Arsenal need to sign a striker, Wenger replied: “We have Sánchez.”
Perhaps of more concern, the Arsenal manager added: “We have Walcott.”
The Gunners will start the new Premier League campaign with a clash against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
Arsenal finished in second place in the English top-flight table last term and 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
