Ashley Young makes bold claim about Man United’s title chances
Ashley Young is backing Manchester United to challenge for the Premier League title this season
Ashley Young believes that Manchester United will push for the Premier League title in Jose Mourinho’s first season at the club.
The Portuguese coach has been brought in to try and restore United to the top of English football after the disappointment of their fifth-placed finish under Louis van Gaal last season.
United did win the FA Cup under Van Gaal last term but that did not stop the club’s board from bringing in Mourinho as his permanent replacement just days after they lifted the trophy.
The Red Devils have not won the top flight title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge in the 2012-13 campaign.
And winger Young is confident that United have what it takes to challenge for the title under new manager Mourinho this season.
Young told MUTV: “Of course we want to do that [challenge for titles].
“Get back to winning ways, winning trophies. A club the size of United should be pushing for the title and I believe, with the squad we’ve got, we’ll be doing that this season.”
Manchester United are now preparing for their Community Shield clash against Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils will play in the Europa League in Mourinho’s first season in charge at the club.
