Ashley Young: What I really think about new Man United boss Jose Mourinho
Ashley Young runs the rule over new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho
Ashley Young believes that Jose Mourinho’s winning mentality is what sets him apart from other managers as the coach prepares for his first season in charge at Manchester United.
The former Chelsea boss was appointed as the club’s new manager on a three-year contract back in May after the Red Devils moved quickly to replace Louis van Gaal following the Dutchman’s sacking after the end of the season.
Mourinho is currently preparing his team for their final pre-season game against Everton at Old Trafford on Wednesday night in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial game.
And winger Young feels that Mourinho’s attitude is what sets him apart as the Portuguese coach gears up for the 2016-17 campaign.
Speaking in an interview with MUTV, Young said: “He has got that winning mentality.
“He’s a winner – you can tell with the history he’s had at every club, where he’s won trophies and won titles. At a club like this, it’s what we want to do.
“I’ve always said we’ve got a great team spirit here and it’s shown on the pitch in pre-season. Everybody’s fitness levels are getting higher and higher, and we’ll look to carry it into the season.”
United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season before the Dutchman was sacked just days after their triumph at Wembley.
The club have not won the Premier League title since 2013, when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford.
