Chelsea convince midfielder to snub Juventus interest – report
Chelsea have managed to convince Nemanja Matic to stay at Stamford Bridge, according to reports in Italy
Antonio Conte has managed to convince Nemanja Matic to snub interest from Juventus and remain at Chelsea, according to reports in Italy.
Italian website Gianlucadimarzio.com is claiming that the Serbia international has been talked into staying at Stamford Bridge by former Juventus manager Conte.
The same article reports that Matic was initially open to the prospect of a move to the Serie A champions as Juventus look to replace Manchester United signing Paul Pogba.
However, the Italian media outlet state that Juventus have given up hope of signing the defensive midfielder unless Matic has an unforeseen change of heart.
Matic was part of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side that won the Premier League title and the League Cup in 2014/15 just 18 months after the Serbian’s return to Stamford Bridge.
However, the 28-year-old struggled like most of his Chelsea team-mates to maintain their high standards last term.
The Blues finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season under Mourinho and his interim replacement Guus Hiddink.
Chelsea will start the new Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham on Monday night.
