Chelsea make £39m bid for Antonio Conte’s third signing – report

Chelsea have made a £39m bid to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario, according to reports

Chelsea have made a £39m bid to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario, according to reports in Portugal.

Portuguese newspaper Jornal De Noticias – as reported by the Daily Express – is claiming that the Blues have made an offer which also includes £4m in bonuses for the midfielder.

The same report claims that Inter Milan have also tabled a matching bid for the player, but that the Portuguese club are leaning towards selling to Chelsea because the English club are willing to pay more of the transfer fee up front.

Mario is also said to privately favour a transfer to the Premier League rather than Serie A.

The same story also claims that Liverpool have expressed an interest in signing Mario.

Chelsea are thought to be on the lookout for further reinforcements this summer after having signed Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante so far since Antonio Conte’s appointment as the club’s new manager.
