Michael Owen states prediction for Chelsea v West Ham
Michael Owen expects Antonio Conte's Chelsea side to concede against West Ham
Michael Owen is backing West Ham midfielder Cheik Kouyate to spoil Antonio Conte’s Premier League debut as Chelsea manager at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
The west London side have looked impressive in pre-season since Conte took over the reins of the four-time Premier League champions following a disappointing defence of their top-flight crown under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink last term.
The Hammers drew 2-2 with Chelsea in west London last season as Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll found the net for Slaven Bilic’s side in the derby clash.
However, former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen is tipping another West Ham player – Kouyate – to find the back of the net against Conte’s Blues side in the final game of the opening round of Premier League fixtures.
“Antonio Conte takes charge of the Blues for the first time against a West Ham side who picked up four points against Chelsea last term,” Owen told BetVictor.
“I was impressed by Cheik Kouyate last term and the Hammers’ midfielder might be a shade overpriced to find the back of the net on Monday evening.”
Chelsea sacked Mourinho as their manager last December after a dreadful attempt at defending their Premier League crown.
Conte has been linked with a host of different players in the summer transfer window but the Italian has only signed two players thus far.
Michy Batshuayi moved to Chelsea in a £33m deal from Marseill before N’Golo Kante swapped Premier League champions Leicester for the Blues.
