Chris Sutton makes surprise prediction about Tottenham and top-four race
Chris Sutton doesn't envisage Tottenham Hotspur finishing in the top four this season
Chris Sutton believes Tottenham Hotspur could finish as low as sixth place in the Premier League table this season.
The Lilywhites were one of the Premier League’s surprise packages last term alongside champions Leicester City.
Dele Alli and Harry Kane managed to inspire Tottenham to an unlikely Premier League title challenge before a poor end to the season allowed the Foxes ease to a historic top-flight crown.
Tottenham missed out on runners-up spot after a four-game winless run to end the season allowed Arsenal to sneak into second place in the Premier League table.
Mauricio Pochettino has signed Victor Wanyama and Vincest Janssen in the summer transfer window in an attempt to bolster his Spurs squad.
However, former Chelsea striker Sutton believes Tottenham won’t even make the top four despite their impressive 2015/16 Premier League season.
“They were a breath of fresh air last season but it is a big ask for them to repeat their success, mainly because of what the other top sides have done. I cannot see them finishing above City, United and Chelsea again, but I still put them in the top six – I have room for them there,” Sutton told BBC Sport.
Pochettino signed Wanyama in a £25m deal from his former club Southampton to add more steel to his midfield.
The Spurs manager has also eased the goal-scoring burden on England striker Kane after signing Janssen in a £19m deal from Eredivise outfit AZ Alkmaar.
